Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition/Technical Advisory Group (DRCC/TAG)
This is the web site of DRCC/Technical Advisory Group (DRCC/TAG). DRCC/TAG is a non-profit 501(c)3, and receives EPA funding to hire a
Technical Advisor to review all cleanup related
studies and plans. DRCC/TAG is involved in all aspects
of the proposed cleanup and are working to ensure
that the cleanup meets community standards.
The Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition (DRCC) was formed in 2001
by an alliance of community, environmental
and small business groups affected by ongoing
pollution and cleanup plans for the Duwamish
River. The mission of DRCC is to ensure a Duwamish
River cleanup that is accepted by and benefits
the community and is protective of fish, wildlife
and human health.
Our Vision
It is the vision of DRCC/TAG that South Seattle residents
will be able to crab in the river without risks
to their family's health, that endangered salmon
will be able recover without PCBs or other
toxic body burdens, and that the banks of the
Duwamish River will be a welcoming and risk-free
place for our children and their children to
wade, fish and play.

History
The Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition (DRCC/TAG)
has been working since 2001 to secure a thorough
cleanup of south Seattle’s Duwamish River.
Founded by local environmental, tribal, and
community organizations, the coalition has
been formally recognized as the “Community
Advisory Group” for the Duwamish River
Superfund Site. The Duwamish River Cleanup
Coalition works to ensure that the Duwamish
River Superfund cleanup not only restores environmental
health and protects fishers and families who
use the river, but also reflects the priorities,
values and will of the people who live and
work in the river valley. DRCC/TAG’s programs
include guided river tours, educational forums,
habitat-restoration events, river festivals,
youth programs, and neighborhood activities
designed to link people to the river.
BJ Cummings, who has served as the Coordinator since its beginning in 2001, is on sabattical from DRCC/TAG and is taking her 10-year old son on a year-long, around-the-world journey. BJ's contagious leadership and enthusiasm for public involvement and active participation in the Superfund process will be missed, but people can track her travels via her travel blog. BJ can also be reached at her personal email.
Cari Simson will continue her work as Program Manager and Development Assistant for DRCC/TAG, leading boat and kayak tours, assisting students' service learning projects, coordinating Duwamish Alive events and the Duwamish River Festival, and other public involvement and fund raising projects.
DRCC/TAG welcomes Thea Levkovitz as the new Coordinator of the coalition, who brings experience with nonprofit management, outreach, media, environmental policy, communication, and organizational development. Thea has spoken and written nationally on the topics of Effective Collaboration, Diverse Outreach and the Spiritual Dimensions of Environmental Advocacy, as well as the pressing environmental policy issues of the Pacific Northwest including; Climate Change, National Energy Policy, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Wild Sky Wilderness and Oil Transportation and Spill Prevention.
