This pandemic is more than a public health issue.  Now is the time to connect the dots and push for community-embedded solutions that will enhance our ability to respond and adapt to emergencies and disasters.  


 

In support of our COVID-19 Community Response, we invite you to GIVE JUST AS BIG to us as you have in the past. Our mission remains, as it always has: to advocate for a safe, clean River- Valley. Current conditions amplify what it means to be low-income, to be vulnerable to health conditions stemming from air pollution, to live in unhealthy, insecure housing conditions, and so many other risk factors shared by those affected by Coronavirus and Superfund sites. It also highlights the inequities in our society that expose people of color to health risks from both pollution and Covid-19 to a greater extent than others. DRCC is striving to be flexible and to serve the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors. We are supporting basic needs like food and shelter by promoting place-keeping and prioritize community capacity and empowerment. 

“In these times of crisis I encourage my family to help.This may not necessarily be money wise, but volunteering and dedicating some time to distribute food to Duwamish Valley Youth Corps families can create a big impact. This transition of the Duwamish Valley Youth Corps is bringing not only knowledge about environmental justice, but also is teaching our youth daily life skills. Skills that many times our youth do not have the time to learn at home. I am a mom of three generations of alum of the Duwamish Valley Youth Corps and have seem them grow in many ways but today they are learning more about the needs of families.” - Margarita Cano

As we look forward to the next phases of the Governor’s re-opening plan, we are adapting our programs to adhere to public health guidelines. We are still planning to facilitate DVYC Cohorts, community cleanups, boat tours and walking tours, and of course to maintain our seat at the EPAs Roundtable where we will share information about the Cleanup with community, and share community opinion with the Roundtable. We’ll make it work using masks, social distancing, smaller groups, and social media and other innovations.
