This hot weather has us thinking about a warming climate, driven by climate change. Climate change drives extreme heat in the summer and other impacts like floods in the rainy season. Calling attention to the disproportionate impacts of climate change in the Duwamish Valley is so important. Climate change is one of the most serious challenges to human health and the environment. What can we do? Advocate for both ENVIRONMENTAL and CLIMATE justice together.

Update: Duwamish Valley Clean Air Program

Growing up, I had asthma due to air pollution and lack of resources in our colored neighborhood. We need to develop plans like this with timelines and financial investment to protect us and next generations from continued air pollution and other inequities"

Hibaq Osman, 16 years old - Youth Leadership Council, DRCC

Background

Improving air quality and the health of Duwamish Valley residents is a top priority. Through research, community led action, and policy all focused on combating air pollution, the Duwamish Valley Clean Air Program strives to reduce a wide range of health impacts and reduce rates of childhood asthma (the program indicator) by action on specific activities in 4 strategies areas following firm accountability measures.

Over the past year, throughout a global pandemic, the Duwamish Valley Clean Air Program successfully moved through a Results Based Accountability Process to identify high priority strategies and actions to act on air pollution in the Duwamish Valley. This process included abundant opportunities for community involvement, feedback, consultation and engagement. Overall, the action plan describes high level priorities for the Duwamish Valley Clean Air Program key participants.
